The Studio
Who we are, and how we work.
In The Gray Studios was founded by Naimah Gray and Ryan Gray. We build from a mix of imagination and lived experiences. That experience informs our books, film, animation, music, photography, and more.
We build because stories about the people most affected keep getting told by everyone else with little to no respect. We do not confuse complexity with harm, however. For us, the gray is where life, contradiction, and survival become visible. Where people surviving nuanced experiences are actually living—and struggling to connect through.
i will never stop fighting for the people, but i have learned to never place my life in danger for someone else's benefit.

Who we are
A creative-led studio owned by two veterans, a Black lesbian and a trans nonbinary lesbian.
Do you work with outside collaborators?
Yes. Creatives, investors, and industry professionals are welcome to reach out through Collaborate.
Do you platform harmful people?
No. While we pride ourselves in holding nuance without flinching, the intention is never to platform individuals who have caused harm. Reclaiming space is the mission, not excusing abusers.
What does In The Gray mean?
The easier question would be what isn't the gray. For us, the gray area means the life that exists between the extremes. People say there's two sides to a story, but we offer insights into the experience itself. Judgement calls are easy to make, witnessing an imperfect story is not. We ask you to sit with the imperfections that exist in the gray.
