DIS/ORDERED

A twelve-episode limited series adapted from the published memoir These Hands. When Senior Airman Andrea Sutton is forced into inpatient treatment, she must decide whether reclaiming her own narrative is worth surviving the institutions built to contain her.

In Development

Why this story

i had to tell this story because it felt like mine was taken away from me. being someone who has lived through traumatic things, i have watched my story be told in ways that left me overexposed and victimized.

creating this project is how i take that power back.

Memento vivere. Remember to live.

Building it

Adapting lived experience for the screen means holding craft, care, and clarity at once, protecting the emotional truth of the story while making formal choices that let audiences stay inside it. Rhythm matters as much as plot. Silence matters as much as dialogue. Context matters as much as conflict.

The goal is not spectacle. The goal is recognition, for people who have lived through institutional betrayal to feel seen without feeling consumed.

Crew

Two roles open.

DIS/ORDERED is looking for a Director of Photography to lead camera and lighting from pre-production through post, and a Line Producer to hold budget discipline. Scoring stays in-house, so a composer is not being sought, and a production designer is not needed at this stage.

Visual intent

  • Naturalistic light that breathes, with texture-forward imagery: earth, water, skin, air.
  • A camera that witnesses rather than intrudes. Stillness and negative space, with motion used on purpose.
  • Dialogue-light passages led by image and sound.
  • Color as emotion, from practical and motivated sources with subtle augmentation.
  • Handheld reserved for interior turbulence. Otherwise patient, composed frames.

What to send

  • A reel or selected scenes aligned with that tone. A portfolio is required for every interested DP.
  • One paragraph on how you would visualize rupture moving into reconstruction.
  • Your preferred camera system and glass, and whether you own or rent a package.
  • Whether you have a camera department you trust, and how you usually build a team.
  • Availability across late 2026 and into mid-2027.

Renting instead of owning a package is completely fine. What matters is craft and collaboration, and wanting to be a real creative partner on a series built to hold its own frame for frame with theatrical work.

The collaboration rhythm here is an early lookbook exchange, shot-deck iteration, joint scouting to define light logic per location and time of day, tests for skin tone handling and grain structure, and close partnership with the sound designer on rhythm and scene breath.

i have never seen this represented in this specific way, and that is because this is my story. if others see themselves in it, my message to them is simple: everything coming apart does not have to be the end.
